Collector's Lane
in Western Virginia
Wytheville, Virginia is a small quiet town with a decidedly rural
flavor. We love drives in the mountains, hiking and biking on the New
River Trail or just floating down the New on an inner-tube. We like high
school football and band concerts. We have bluegrass, gospel or old-time music playing in the area every
week. Yes, we know our neighbors and even their neighbors. You might think
we are in a rural corner of Virginia with little to offer folks from other areas
but we would like to surprise you.
Old Fort Antique Mall
We also love old things, you know, antiques, not-yet-antiques and even some
stuff that may never become an antique. And that is where I think we
shine. With our large selection of antique malls, flea markets, weekend
antique and collectible shows and auction houses, we have the largest selection
of art, antiques and collectibles in Virginia and probably in the East.
Snoopers Antique Mall
Officially, Collector's Lane is a section of interstates I-77 and I-81 that
run together in our county. Between exit 77 and exit 80, we have 3 giant
malls. They include Antique Station, Old
Fort Antique Mall and Snooper's Antique Mall. Within these three malls
is a collection of everything old from this area and from around the country and
some things from Europe and the Orient. All told, these stores represent
hundreds of antique dealers and collectors who wish to offer their wares to
you. This alone makes us the largest concentration of old stuff in the state but
that is only the tip of the antique iceberg so to speak.
Antique Station
Additionally, we have in this area the largest antique, collectible and gun
show in the east on Labor Day weekend each year at the Hillsville Antique and
Gun Show. We offer an antique or collectible's show or flea market just
about every weekend in the general area. Some of them include:
~ The Antique Show that is part of our local Chautauqua Festival in Wytheville
is on the last weekend of June each year.
~ The August Virginia Highlands Festival in Abingdon is a 17 day extravaganza
that includes their Antiques Market. For many people,
it is the centerpiece of The Festival and covers 45,000 sq-ft of displays.
Antiques lovers spend days browsing through tents filled with an impressive
array of fine formal and country furniture, top-end collectibles, folk art,
jewelry, accessories, books and primitives. They also offer Antiques
Mini-Seminars for those who want more information about their collections or
grandma's old things.
~ If you have special items that you think are worth a lot, we often have
appraisal sessions in the area where our professionals can give you an idea of
your antique's worth. We are lucky the have a very reputable top auction
house in nearby Radford.
~ The Ken Farmer Auctions and Appraisals firm specializes in American Furniture
and Folk Art. You might have seen him on the Antiques Road Show or
appraising antiques on the Oprah Winfrey Show.
By now, I hope you see that we are a Mecca to antique dealers and
collectors. And the big secret is that most of the big urban shops buy
from us to sell to you. Wouldn't you rather buy direct and save?
Please plan a trip into our area and visit our shops and weekend
shows. I have only scratched the surface of what we offer the collector in
our area. We also have antique shops and malls in Christiansburg, Galax,
Bluefield and Princeton, West Virginia, Bristol, Tennessee and Virginia and all
points in between.
